About us
Why VetHound exists
A free, independent site that brings published vet fees into one place — so you can plan ahead instead of guessing.
VetHound is a free, independent price comparison site built for UK pet owners. We exist because your pet deserves great care — and you deserve to know what that care costs before you book it.
If you are here, you already know: our pets are our family. They sleep on the bed, greet us at the door, and trust us completely when something is wrong. When they need a vet, your first thought is getting them better — not comparing consultation fees. But the bills are real. A check-up, a booster, a neuter, an unexpected lump: it all adds up, and for too long it has been far too hard to see what different practices charge before you commit.
That is not because vets are out to catch you out. Good veterinary care is skilled, careful work, often run by small teams with genuine love for animals. The problem is the system: fees scattered across websites, tucked away in PDFs, or not published at all. Finding out what you will pay has meant ringing round — on top of everything else you are already worrying about.
Why now
Things are starting to change
The Competition and Markets Authority spent two years reviewing the UK veterinary market. What they found matched what many of us already suspected: it was too hard to compare practices on price, and too many owners had no idea whether their vet was a local independent or part of a big corporate group.
Reforms are on the way — practices will be expected to publish standardised price lists. That is good news, but we don't think you should have to wait. VetHound is already here: one place to see published fees, ownership, ratings, and accreditation, so you can choose a practice you trust at a price you can plan for.
How we help
We list veterinary practices across the UK and show the prices they publish on their own websites — consultations, vaccinations, neutering, microchipping, and more. Search by postcode, browse your county or town, and see what vets near you actually charge.
We also show RCVS accreditation and whether a practice is independent or corporate-owned — because who looks after your pet matters as much as what they charge. Our pet care guides help you understand typical costs and what to ask before you book.
Practices can claim their listing to keep details up to date. If you spot a price that looks wrong, our corrections process helps keep listings accurate — for pet owners comparing options and for practices keeping their information current.
What we stand for
Transparency first
When a practice publishes its fees online, you should find them in seconds — not after a dozen phone calls while your pet is giving you the sad eyes.
Independent by design
Practices do not pay us to appear higher in results. We are pet people building a tool for pet people, not a directory that sells leads to the highest bidder.
Free for you
No account, no subscription, no selling your data. Looking after your pet is expensive enough — comparing vet prices should not cost you a penny more.
Honest about limits
Coverage is still growing, and fees can change. What you see here is meant to help you compare and plan — and when you book, the practice can confirm their prices.
A promise to you
We are comparison publishers, not veterinarians. Nothing on VetHound is medical advice, and the prices we show are guides — so it's always worth checking with your practice when you book. We want you to walk in knowing what to expect, so you can focus on your pet, not the invoice.
If we get this right, everyone wins: you make a confident choice for your pet, good practices get credit for being open about their fees, and transparency becomes the norm. That is what we are working towards — for every pet, in every postcode.
