Why transparency matters
UK pet owners spend billions on vet care each year, yet for a long time it was surprisingly hard to compare what different practices charge before you walked through the door.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) spent two years investigating the veterinary market. Its final report in March 2026 found that weak price transparency made it difficult for pet owners to shop around — and that many practices still did not publish clear fee information online.
Reforms are on the way: practices will be required to publish standardised price lists on their websites and in reception. That is good news — but you shouldn't have to wait to make a more informed choice.

Published prices in one place
We collect fees from practice websites where they are published, so you can compare consultations, vaccines, neutering and more without ringing round.
Ownership shown clearly
The CMA also highlighted that many owners did not know whether their vet was independent or part of a large corporate group. We show that on every listing.

Yes. Searching, comparing and reading our guides costs nothing. We do not charge pet owners and we do not take referral fees from practices.
We collect fees from practice websites where they are published openly — consultations, vaccinations, neutering, microchipping and other common treatments. If a practice has not published prices yet, we show what we know about the practice but mark pricing as unavailable.
Published prices are a useful guide for budgeting, but the final bill can depend on your pet's size, clinical findings and any extras on the day. Always confirm costs with the practice before treatment. We refresh data as practices update their websites; if something looks wrong, let us know.
We are building coverage practice by practice, starting with areas where owners search most. Not every UK practice is on VetHound yet — and not every listed practice publishes fees online. Use the directory to see what is available near you.
Yes. If you represent a veterinary practice, you can claim your listing to add or correct fees and contact details. Use the claim link on your practice page or contact us at partners@vethound.co.uk.
Not necessarily. Fees reflect location, overheads, equipment and how a practice structures its services — not a simple quality score. Ratings, accreditation and what is included in a quoted price are all worth weighing alongside the number on the page.
No. VetHound is an information site about published fees and practice details. For clinical decisions, speak to a qualified vet.
