Built for pet owners

VetHound exists to make published vet fees easier to find and compare — nothing more complicated than that.

  • Less ringing around

See consultation fees, boosters, neutering and more in one search — filter by distance, pet type and price.

  • Side-by-side clarity

Compare practices on the treatments you care about, with Google ratings and RCVS accreditation where we have it.

  • Know the landscape

Spot how your area compares to neighbouring counties, and whether a practice publishes fees openly.

  • Free, with no catch

No account, no ads, no pay-to-rank. We are independent — practices do not pay us to appear higher in results.

Why transparency matters

Pet care shouldn't be a guessing game

UK pet owners spend billions on vet care each year, yet for a long time it was surprisingly hard to compare what different practices charge before you walked through the door.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) spent two years investigating the veterinary market. Its final report in March 2026 found that weak price transparency made it difficult for pet owners to shop around — and that many practices still did not publish clear fee information online.

Reforms are on the way: practices will be required to publish standardised price lists on their websites and in reception. That is good news — but you shouldn't have to wait to make a more informed choice.

What we do differently

  • Published prices in one place

We collect fees from practice websites where they are published, so you can compare consultations, vaccines, neutering and more without ringing round.

  • Ownership shown clearly

The CMA also highlighted that many owners did not know whether their vet was independent or part of a large corporate group. We show that on every listing.

  • Free, independent and on your side

No signup, no upsell. We are here to help you find fair, transparent care — and to nudge the whole market towards publishing prices openly.

Where you live matters

Average consultation fees differ between counties — sometimes by a wide margin. Browse your area to see local practices and the prices they publish.

Among counties with enough published data, average consultations vary by up to 2.1×.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about how VetHound works and where our data comes from.

Is VetHound free to use?

Yes. Searching, comparing and reading our guides costs nothing. We do not charge pet owners and we do not take referral fees from practices.

Where do the prices come from?

We collect fees from practice websites where they are published openly — consultations, vaccinations, neutering, microchipping and other common treatments. If a practice has not published prices yet, we show what we know about the practice but mark pricing as unavailable.

How accurate and up to date are the figures?

Published prices are a useful guide for budgeting, but the final bill can depend on your pet's size, clinical findings and any extras on the day. Always confirm costs with the practice before treatment. We refresh data as practices update their websites; if something looks wrong, let us know.

Do you list every vet in the UK?

We are building coverage practice by practice, starting with areas where owners search most. Not every UK practice is on VetHound yet — and not every listed practice publishes fees online. Use the directory to see what is available near you.

Can my practice add or update its listing?

Yes. If you represent a veterinary practice, you can claim your listing to add or correct fees and contact details. Use the claim link on your practice page or contact us at partners@vethound.co.uk.

Does a higher price mean better care?

Not necessarily. Fees reflect location, overheads, equipment and how a practice structures its services — not a simple quality score. Ratings, accreditation and what is included in a quoted price are all worth weighing alongside the number on the page.

Is this veterinary advice?

No. VetHound is an information site about published fees and practice details. For clinical decisions, speak to a qualified vet.

For veterinary practices

Get found by owners who do their research

Pet owners use VetHound to find practices that share prices openly. Search by your practice postcode to find your listing, then claim it to add or update fees, correct contact details, and show what you charge for routine care — in line with incoming transparency requirements.
